(Esper, 1800)...
Chamaesphecia bibioniformis is a moth of the Sesiidae family. This species can be found in most of southern Europe (from Spain to southern Russia) and from Asia Minor to Kyrgyzstan.
In Italy it is absent from the Islands *.
It has a wingspan of 19-21 millimeters and like most of the genus Chamaesphecia requires the dissection of the genitals to be certain of the species.
The wings have a dark brown / black stripe in the middle area. which separates the transparent areas of the wing itself,
the costal margin is brownish black, like the anal margin.
The area near the apex has the ETA (transparent area) divided into 5 cells that continue towards the apex itself in a series of yellow / orange spots.
The rear wing is almost completely transparent except for the border of blackish brown, fringed, with shades of orange towards the outside.
The abdomen is brown / black, with a yellow-orange line, along the back and three longitudinal white lines to divide it into almost equal parts.
The adults are visible in flight in the period between June and July, in the places where the host plant is present.
The larvae feed on the plants of the Euphorbiaceae in particular of the Euphorbia seguieriana.
