Information

The Celypha flavipalpana is a moth of the Tortricidae family with a wingspan of 12-17 mm. In Europe it is found in Austria, Russia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland *
Its range extends to Asiatic Russia and South Korea. ***
In Italy it is absent from the islands. *

Very similar to the congener Celypha cespitana it differs from it for a lighter background color, even if this distinctive character is not always decisive.
In case of doubt the labial palps should be considered with Celypha cespitana which has some brownish scales at the apex, while the palps of the Celypha flavipalpana are completely light yellow.

The front wings of the Celypha flavipalpana have a hazelnut background color, with silvery gray streaks and markings.
The basal region is presented in the background color with some more or less evident signs of a silver color, separated from the adjacent region by two evident parallel bands also these in gray / silver color.

Well-defined middle band, in the basic color, bounded towards the post-discal region by a silver line with a curved trend that intersects with a line of the same color, which starts from the inner corner of the wing to end in the middle of the costa.
The costa is hazelnut colored with various concurrent streaks, and of the same color, of the various intersecting lines.

The apex is in orange / hazelnut color. The margin is delimited by a well-defined line of dark hazelnut color, which starts from the apex and to finish beyond the inner corner. The edges are fringed, gray in color, except at the apex and in the middle of the margin itself, where the color is darker.
The hind wings are also gray fringed. **

Adults are visible from June to August, in one or perhaps two generations per year. Habitats are varied from open meadows to moorlands. This moth is often attracted to artificial light. Food plants recorded include: Calluna vulgaris (heather) from the Ericaceae family, Thymus (thyme) from the Lamiaceae familyand Trifolium species (clover) of the Fabaceae family. **
